OccuCare Systems and Solutions is proud to announce the recent release of an article written by Jim Mecham, MS, OTR/L, AEP the developer of OccuCare's Online Assessment Application and their continuing education director. The article appeared in the May 2009 edition of Advance for Occupational Therapy Practitioners and is titled "Functional and Profitable Industrial Rehab". Jim has performed and implemented industrial rehab programming for the last 15 years within the United States and abroad. His vast experience has helped OccuCare provide the latest in industrial rehab technology and the most innovative approach to industrial rehab available on the open market. He has written many articles and helped clinics across North America implement industrial rehab. The article was one of the first articles that outlines the approach Mr. Mecham teaches clinics nationwide and discusses one of the first times this innovative approach was implemented in a private practice. This practice is now one of the most profitable industrial rehab practices in the country.
The article provides a step by step process of the overall program and how therapists incorporate this innovative approach into their daily treatment of injured workers. Most industrial rehab programs are end of treatment specialty programs but this approach incorporates industrial rehab philosophies from the first workers compensation patient visit and assures return to work readiness. The classic industrial rehab tools are Functional Capacity Evaluations and Work Hardening. The innovative and proprietary tools Mr. Mecham created include Functional Progress Notes TM and Functional Discharge Summaries TM. These tools in and of themselves have helped therapy departments achieve financial success.
